Client Stories
Our clients came to LSNV because they were several months behind on their rent and received a pay or quit notice from their landlord. The clients were impacted financially from COVID-19 and had gone through their savings and resources.
After receiving advice and counsel through our Advice Counsel and Transfer (ACT) line on how to apply for rental assistance and rights under the eviction moratoriums, the landlord filed suit and the case was transferred to a case handler staff attorney. The case handler agreed to represent in the pending eviction case, requested a COVID related continuance, responded to extensive harassing discovery over the client’s income, and ultimately prevailed in court based on the defective notices.
LSNV’s representation helped provide the time the family needed to get back on their feet and avoid eviction, get appropriate rental assistance, and avoid intrusive and overly broad document requests about their finances. The family ultimately received over $25,000 in rental assistance to bring them current.
